Welcome to the Facility Management Program at the University of Kaiserslautern

Already since 2002 Facility Management has been a subject in the department of Civil Engineering and Building Construction at the University of Kaiserslautern. In 2007, the undergraduate program started as the first dedicated Facility Management program (B.Sc., 180 CP) at a German Research University. Since then, the continuous development has led to the introduction of the graduate program in Facility Management (M.Sc., 120 CP) in the Fall Term of 2015.

Course offerings range from construction engineering and facilities engineering to real estate law, real estate studies and business studies. The research-oriented consecutive master degree takes a focus on facilities engineering. The graduate program includes International Studies, which add to the pursued international profiles of our master graduates. In their international studies, graduate students perform a full term of their FM studies abroad.

International Students
At present, we do not offer regular English lectured courses in our FM program. We seek to include a share of English lectured courses in 2017/2018 both for the additional benefit of our existing students and of such incoming students who are not quite familiar with the German language. To date, 300 English lectured courses are offered at the University of Kaiserslautern, mainly in the departments of
Computer Science, Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering, Business Studies and Economics and Mathematics. Students in B.Sc. and M.Sc. programs at the University of Kaiserslautern can usually select course offerings from different departments as electives.

International students can get useful information and support in particular from the Department of International Affairs (ISGS) (see Contacts - http://www.uni-kl.de/en/international/home/) at the University of Kaiserslautern and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD - www.daad.de/en/) for their enrollment at the University of Kaiserslautern.

The Facility Management program (B.Sc., M.Sc.) at the University of Kaiserslautern is accredited by AQAS (
http://www.aqas.de/information-in-english/) and certified by GEFMA (German Facility Management Association, www.gefma.de/english.html). Prof. Dr.-Ing. Hohmann, who reads IT in Facility and Real Estate Management in our FM program, is a past member of the board of IFMA. The University of Kaiserslautern is known for sound teaching and effective support to its app. 14,000 students.

The University of Kaiserslautern is a campus university which provides students not only with short distances between its twelve departments, its administration and spare-time activities like the award-winning campus sport program Unisport, but also to the proximate research centers like Max-Planck and Fraunhofer Institutes as well as the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI).

The city of Kaiserslautern is adjacent to the Pfaelzerwald, the largest forest region in Western Europe, and close to France and Luxembourg. The state capitals Mainz and Saarbrucken and the city of Mannheim are each within a 70 km/45 minutes by train or car range. The people of Kaiserslautern are open-minded and rather international, due to both its geographic position, the on-site research facilities and the U.S. Airbase Ramstein nearby.
